So, right now I am mostly trying to understand what is it they do here… this is what I can say so far:
They come from a design background, but their work is not focused on graphic design products, they don’t design your logo, or your website, or the brochure for your next campaign… they work more in consultancy, they are hired by companies to help the people in the companies understand complicated situations, and they use process tools and information design tools to take people through processes that help them for example formulate a challenge in a company, or a strategy for a product, or an business idea.

So they help people understand.

How gratifying it is to be a listener

Today we went for lunch with a Danish PHD student called Max (Max’s website). He is writing a PHD about practice centred design, a thesis into how to think about design as solving the issues and challenges of everyday life. Max was interested in the work the guys from my internship place are doing, he was in NY for a few days, so he wrote to Garry to invite him for lunch.

I kind of invited myself… or kind of politely asked if I could come along to the lunch, it has indeed a very interesting experience, and I got a free lunch too!

First 2 days in New York

Last night was my second night at the hostal, I slept at the girls only room tonight, and it was much better, nobody snoring, a bit tidier and well, just kind of more comfortable to sleep there.
I got to new York two days ago, on sunday, with all the getting to the hostal from the airport and finding my way on the subway system the only thing I could do on sunday was to find a supermarket to buy something to eat.
